Oklahoma State University State University will be among the 34 Oklahoma colleges and universities hosting the 2008 Summer Academies in Math and Sciences. These academies are intended for residents of Oklahoma who will be entering 8-12th grades in the Fall 2008.
OSU’s summer academy is entitled “Fired-up about Research, Science, and Engineering” and is targeting grade levels 10-12. It is being directed by Professor J.D Brown, from the department of Fire Protection and Safety Technology, and Jovette Dew, the Director of Diversity Academic Support.
Participants will be exploring and experiencing the excitement of technology and sciences that reshape our world. This will be an intensive week-long residential program during which participants will be challenged with laboratory and field-based scenarios centered on a common theme “Fire”. The participants will also investigate careers, learn new skills, and prepare for the fascinating world of technology. Some of the specific activities will include forensics, robotics, and the science and engineering of fire.
The camp is jointly sponsored by the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology, the Vice-President for Institutional Diversity and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. Inquiries should be addressed to Jovette Dew at 405-744-2920 or jovette.dew@okstate.edu.
